Time for another trip to Britain!

The "Genealogical Adventure" of 2016 was so wonderful but it is probably impossible (and rarely advisable) to try to repeat something which has been wonderful ... so the Genealogical Adventure v. 2 is going to be different.

In 2016, we had seven weeks in seven places.  I was following the trail of my father's family.  It made for a fabulous itinerary.  Thanks Dad!

This time we are going for one month and staying in one place.  Tynemouth.  In the North East of England.  And I am researching the various ancestors who ended up in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and the counties of Tyne and Wear and Northumberland. In the days back then, there was no county of Tyne and Wear - we lived in Northumberland.  And Newcastle was a city and a county for some reason.

With these new parameters, it is still mostly the family of my father which is getting my attention but my maternal grandparents will also come into play.

In 1951 I was born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and despite having many addresses during the first five years of my life in places as far flung apart as Killin in Perthshire, Scotland and Diss in Norfolk and many more in between, I do consider that I grew up in the North East of England.  Whitley Bay was my home town (a couple of miles north of where we are staying in Tynemouth).

But this isn't just about digging up dead relatives - it will also be about having fun - enjoying the sea and the shore, the countryside and the city and everything on offer in this special part of my world.

Welcome to my blog "Rooting Around in North East England".  I hope you enjoy following along.
